Volunteers make a difference throughout SSM Health. We have volunteers working in patient-care areas and non-patient care areas. Volunteers are commonly seen on nursing units, at our information desks, in our gift shops, in our outpatient departments and in our emergency rooms. We also offer opportunities for clerical/administrative support in departments like Human Resources, volunteer services, foundation, medical records and more. Many of our hospitals also have pet therapy programs that enable dogs and their volunteer handlers to visit our patients and their families.

Volunteers at our hospice sites provide companionship, run errands, provide caregiver relief, and work behind the scenes performing clerical duties or assisting with special projects.

Please view our opportunity directory for a list of specific volunteer opportunities at each of our locations.

We offer flexible scheduling. Many volunteers decide to serve on a weekly or bi-monthly basis, typically two to four hours at a time. Some volunteers do less than this and some are able to do more.

Volunteers receive the joy of making a difference in the lives of others, including patients, visitors and employees. Volunteers also appreciate getting to know their co-workers and being part of vibrant community of caregivers. Volunteers often experience personal growth and satisfaction through the opportunity to provide a meaningful experience for our patients in a health care setting. We offer flexible scheduling, recognition programs and free parking for our volunteers.

The personal, professional appearance of SSM Health volunteers is just as important as that of our employees. Volunteers are required to wear a hospital-issued identification security badge at all times, in addition to a volunteer uniform which is specific to your location and/or service area.

The flu vaccine is required of all volunteers each year. There is also annual mandatory education that is required. There may be other requirements depending on the year and place of service.

We need volunteers at all our hospitals, hospice sites and care centers.
