The incidence of stroke is widespread and on the increase. According to the American Stroke Association, each year more than 795,000 Americans suffer a stroke, which has become the third leading cause of death in the United States behind heart disease and cancer. Research from the American Heart Association predicts that that number of people suffering a stroke will double in the coming decades as our population continues to age.
