Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 5 to join Agnesian HealthCare providers for a morning of free lifesaving screenings.
Open to all ages, the 18th annual “Living Smart” event is scheduled from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Agnesian Cancer Center, 480 E. Division Street, and will focus on early detection, prevention and cancer education. Participants will need to register for screenings by Friday, April 4.
“This free health event offers the community a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the importance of early detection, what risks they may have and what steps they should take to decrease their risks of developing cancer,” says Bill Daly, director of Agnesian HealthCare oncology services.
Living Smart will feature many free cancer screenings by area physicians and other healthcare professionals. Screenings include a breast self-exam education program, PSA (prostate blood test for men; $5), digital rectal exam (prostate exam for men), skin cancer screenings, oral cancer screenings (mouth, tongue and throat) and testicular screenings.
The morning program will also include FIT testing (a colorectal screening kit to take home; $3), health risk assessment, genetic risk assessment information, smoking cessation information, educational displays and refreshments. Plus, participants have a chance to win an iPad mini!
The Agnesian Cancer Center provides diagnosis and treatment for cancer patients throughout a 10-county region, with locations in Fond du Lac, Waupun and Ripon.
Preregistration is required for the Living Smart event by registering on-line at agnesian.com/livingsmart14. Individuals without computer access can call the Agnesian Cancer Center at (920) 926-4100 to register.
Participants can select all or any of the screenings, which will be offered free (except for the $5 PSA screening and the $3 FIT colorectal screening kit). And, they can request a particular time block for their screenings.
