Agnesian HealthCare named among 100 best hospitals for patient engagement
June 12, 2014

Agnesian HealthCare has been listed among the 100 best hospitals for patient engagement as part of the Axial Exchange and Becker’s Hospital Review inaugural National Patient Engagement Ranking, which evaluated provider organizations across the country and their patient engagement efforts.

The national ranking evaluated all 3,077 U.S. hospitals’ engagement efforts based on an analysis of publicly available data, including readmissions, patient satisfaction and the extent to which organizations offered information and tools that help engage patients in self-care.

A total of 13 Wisconsin hospitals made the 100 best organizations.

Agnesian HealthCare has been actively working to provide “simply the best” service for the past several years, creating a culture where patients, residents and families come first.

“Our leaders, providers and associates are continually looking for ways to enhance the programs, services, technology and care that we offer – all designed to help provide the most positive patient or resident experience as possible,” says Steve Little, Agnesian HealthCare president and chief executive officer.

“That has been our tradition since Mother Agnes Hazotte first committed to building a hospital in Fond du Lac, opening in 1896,” Little adds. “It was her early courage and fearless leadership that has set the framework for where Agnesian HealthCare stands today.”

Patient engagement means that patients and families are becoming more actively involved in their healthcare choices. It is understanding their health and taking an active role with decision-making. This includes the provider checking for understanding, as well as asking the patient what their preferences are in managing their health.

“Patients who are more engaged with their healthcare and understand their conditions are more likely to comply with providers’ recommendations,” according to Sue Edminster, Agnesian HealthCare vice president of Human Resources. “Patient engagement means patients and families are informed and educated.”

Agnesian HealthCare provides multiple resources to help with the understanding of their patients’ healthcare, including medication information through Agnesian eHealth, and encouraging patients and families to provide feedback.

“All of the information that patients and families share with us helps to coordinate care between providers,” Edminster explains. “This also ensures that the components of the patient experience at met, including satisfaction, perception and loyalty.”
