Ripon Medical Center celebrates start of new hospital construction
The warm sun was shining down on Ripon Medical Center and Agnesian HealthCare leaders as the Ripon area community came together to celebrate the official start of construction of a new 120,000-square-foot facility for the local hospital.
More than 160 people gathered at the hospital’s groundbreaking ceremony to listen to details surrounding the new Ripon Medical Center, see actual renderings and floor plans, and enjoy good conversation and refreshments.
“It has been over a year since Ripon Medical Center became a part of Agnesian HealthCare, and it has been a fantastic period of growth and new introductions,” says Katherine Vergos, Ripon Medical Center chief operating officer. “This new facility will be the most visible development that Ripon and surrounding communities will see as you enter the city limits, and we couldn’t be happier.”
Once complete in summer 2014, patients and visitors will enter through a main entrance that gives the experience of entering one single, integrated medical center.
The hospital’s first floor will feature mainly outpatient services, including provider offices, medical imaging, laboratory and emergency services. A separate entrance will be available for surgical patients and their families off Parkside Street with a separate entrance for departure along the Douglas Street side. Dedicated surgical parking will also be on hand. A meditation/reflection room will also be on the first floor.
On the second floor, all inpatient services will be located on the Douglas Street side, including two labor/delivery/recovery and postpartum rooms as part of the Women & Infants Unit, four Intensive Care Unit rooms (two which will be acuity adaptable) to flex with Medical/Surgical volumes and inpatient care rooms. Inpatient pharmacy will be next to this area.
Joan Karsten, Ripon Medical Center Board of Directors chairperson, says the new facility reinforces the hospital’s commitment, as well as that of Agnesian HealthCare, to keep as many healthcare services at a local level.
“The thought of the Ripon community having a state-of-the-art medical facility has been a dream of ours for quite some time,” says Karsten. “We know that the wait will be worth the final product – a facility that we will all be proud of, and one that will service our needs now and well into the future.”
Wayne Matzke, Agnesian HealthCare Board of Directors chairperson, concurs. “I am honored to be a part of this significant event. This project continues Agnesian HealthCare’s commitment to state-of-the-art medical services, a commitment to our communities, and a pledge for excellence, which will ensure that Agnesian HealthCare patients and families receive the finest in healthcare services close to home.”
Agnesian HealthCare is pleased to be a part of the growth seen within the Ripon area. “We’re building not only for Ripon; we’re building for the surrounding area; we’re building for the future,” according to Steve Little, Agnesian HealthCare president and chief executive officer. “As Ripon grows, we will grow. As the hospital grows, the dedication and commitment of the Agnesian HealthCare will also grow.”
