Garden walk enjoys successful year
July 28, 2014

Beautiful weather prevailed on July 13 as garden enthusiasts enjoyed the beauty of six local gardens, ultimately helping to raise money to support the Agnesian HealthCare Community Care Fund, which assists the medical needs of the uninsured or underinsured.

More than 500 people admired the handiwork and loving care given to showcased gardens during the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation 2014 Garden Walk & Art Fair. Thanks to community support and generous garden hosts, the garden walk had another successful year generating more than $8,300.

This year’s garden properties were located at W2545 Blackberry Drive, Mt. Calvary (Steve & Mary Zimmerman); W3950 Highway 23, Fond du Lac (Art Fair: Free SPIRIT Riders); W3879 Somerset Court, Fond du Lac (Dave & Sue Head); 560 Russell Street, Fond du Lac (Jim & Sandra Caliva); 491 Highland Court, Fond du Lac (Gerald & Sue Dorst); and 484 Highland Court, Fond du Lac (Ruth Iacoviello).

Stuart’s Landscaping & Garden Center, and Commonwealth Landscape & Maintenance helped to sponsor the event.

“We are so fortunate to have the support of some many individuals with our annual garden walk – from our planning committee to our garden host to our sponsors and then those individuals who join us for this special day,” says Rita Meidam, Agnesian HealthCare Foundation executive director. “We know that the ultimate benefactors of the garden walk are those patients that can receive vital healthcare services when they are unable to pay for their services on their own.”

The first garden walk was organized by the Agnesian HealthCare Volunteers in 1996 in celebration of St. Agnes Hospital’s centennial.

The 2014 garden walk was coordinated by committee members: Mona Eiring, Karen Gruenewaldt, Jennifer Hawley, Ramona Huempfner, Terry Mabee, Julie Moyer, Michelle Ries, Jean Smith and Mary Zimmerman.

Pat Meyer and Cailey Wagner, both of Fond du Lac, were the lucky prize drawing winners.

Individuals that would like to nominate a local garden as a future garden walk participant can call the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation office at (920) 926-4959.

The 2015 Garden Walk is scheduled for Sunday, July 12. For more information, call the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation at (920) 926-4959.
