Agnesian HealthCare recently honored its volunteers at Ripon Medical Center during a recognition luncheon at Royal Ridges in Ripon. The 2013 theme focused on “Living Our Mission: A Spirit of Hope” recognizing volunteers and the work they do throughout the year.
Katherine Vergos, Ripon Medical Center chief operating officer, served as the keynote speaker. She offered an update on the construction of the new Ripon Medical Center, as well as stressing the important role that volunteers play at the hospital.
The Ripon High School “Contabile,” under the direction of Allison Zeitler, provided musical entertainment.
Key volunteers were recognized for their leadership in the Ripon Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary. They included: Jackie Halverson, president; Vicki Dishman, vice president; Judy Robbert, secretary; Grace Albright, treasurer; Bobbie Pollesch, Gift Shoppe treasurer; Dorothy Daw, sewing; Judy Maguire, programs; and Mary Schieffer, member-at-large.
Daw was honored for 5,000 hours of service to the hospital and Betsy Blazek for 7,000 hours of service.
The 128 volunteers at Ripon Medical Center provide many services, including delivering meals through the Meals on Wheels Program; picking up mail and other errands through the van courier service; and assisting in mailroom sorting and delivery.
Other volunteers serve juice and refreshments to patients, donate time in Central Registration, and greet patients and visitors at the Information Desk. Some assemble packets and assist departments with various clerical tasks or sew bags for ice packs and walkers. Many volunteers donate their time at the Center Shoppe (gift shop) to help raise funds to support the hospital.
These are just some of the valuable things the volunteers do as they continue to support Ripon Medical Center and the surrounding community.
“These volunteers are amazing with the dedication of their time,” says Karen Gross, Volunteer Services Coordinator at Ripon Medical Center. “They live our mission with a spirit of hope every time they come to volunteer. We could never offer the services and healing environment we do without their assistance.”
