Treffert Center Social Communication Program: Three to Six-Year-Olds

Time

Location

Treffert Center, 371 E. First Street, Fond du Lac.

This program six-week program takes a unique approach that combines both direct teaching and child-centered activities, while incorporating gross motor and sensory experiences. Activities will provide natural opportunities for children to interact in a meaningful way with their peers.


Therapists Karen Bartelt and Beth Dardis will recognize "teachable moments" and tailor teaching methods to utilize each sutdent's individual strengths. The program is open to children ages three to six-year-olds. 


Social communication skills will include:




  1. Conversational Skills: Using language to take part in reciprocal and meaningful exchanges (e.g. engagement, topic maintenance, topic initiation, turn-taking and listening).




  2. Self-Regulation Skills: Managing one’s own feelings and/or sensory, motor planning and visual-spatial issues.




  3. Cooperation Skills: Problem solving, compromising, and understanding others’ perspectives to establish and maintain relationships.




  4. Generalization Skills: To communicate effectively across social situations and to adjust social behaviors to meet the listener’s needs.

Depression & Bipolar Support Group

Walk With a Doc

Agnesian HealthCare is partnering with Walk With a Doc to create a safe, walkable community.


The collaborative mission is to encourage healthy physical activity in people of all ages, and reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle in order to improve the health and well-being of the country.


Join Agnesian HealthCare providers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. to begin your commitment of improved health and well-being.


Step it Up! The Surgeon General of the United States recommends 150 minutes of weekly exercise to:



  • Lower your risk of heart disease and stroke, type 2 diabetes, breast and colon cancers, and depression

  • Maintain or lose weight

  • Boost your energy

  • Improve your sleep

  • Reduce stress

  • Redue your risk of falls

  • Delay the onset of cognitive decline and dementia

  • Increase sense of well-being and more!

Journeys Presents....Yoga for Children at the Treffert Academy

Treffert Center, 371 E. First Street, Fond du Lac.

Yoga can be a crucial tool to help children learn to manage transition, self-soothing and interpersonal skills. Behavior and focus, strength, flexibility, balance and self-regulation are all improved through yoga, making it an ideal practice for young children as they learn to master these skills.


Children ages three to 12 are invited to join Lauren Villegas, PsyD, psychotherapist and certified yoga instructor, for yoga practice that incorporates positive play with the use of games and songs to assist children in yoga postures, as well as in breathing and mindfulness exercises.


Handouts will be provided with instruction for parents on how to incorporate yoga skills at home. 


Preregistration and payment is required. Seating is limited.


Class dates include Tuesdays, July 26 to August 30.

Infant Massage

Infant massage is nourishment for healthy development of baby’s mind, body and spirit. Loving touch lessens tension, fussiness and irritability; enhances bonding; aids in growth and development; improves baby’s sleep and increases circulation.


This Agnesian HealthCare class is for newborns that are not yet crawling. Participants should bring a soft blanket to the class.
