Gentle Yoga - With a Viniyoga Approach
Time: 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Yoga provides the means to bring out the best in each individual. This requires an understanding of a person’s present condition, personal potential and appropriate goals. Since each person is different, these will vary with each individual. Viniyoga is an ancient Sanskrit term that implies differentiation, adaptation and appropriate application. It refers to a yoga approach that adapts the various means and methods of practice to the unique condition, needs and interest of the individual. Join Suzanne Boyle, Fond du Lac Center for Spirituality and Healing certified yoga instructor and member of the Yoga Alliance, as she guides each participant, and provides the tools to individualize and actualize the process of self-discovery and personal transformation. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a blanket and pillow to each class. Classes are scheduled for Mondays, September 13 & 20 and October 4, 11 & 25.

Agnesian HealthCare's Safe Sitter workshop is a nationally-recognized babysitting workshop that teaches adolescent babysitters how to handle crises and how to nurture and guide a young adult. Participants of this workshop emerge as more confident, responsible and compassionate teen and adults. Students will receive a manual and course completion card. This class is for children ages 11 to 14. All students should bring a beverage and snack/lunch or dinner. This is a two-day workshop.

Healthcare Provider CPR

HEALTHCARE PROVIDER CPR teaches healthcare providers the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device and oxygen), use of an AED and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction in responsive and non-responsive victims. A course completion card is given upon successful completion of a practical and written exam.

In fact, back pain – especially low back pain in this case – can be caused by underlying physical issues, or it may also result from lifestyle habits. Family & Friends CPR for Expectant Parents teaches lay rescuers skills in adult, child and infant
CPR and relief of foreign body airway obstruction in the responsive victim. The course presents information about the AHA adult Chain of Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking in adults. The course also presents information on the AHA pediatric Chain of Survival, signs of choking in infants and children, prevention of the most common fatal pediatric injuries and reduction in the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. A course “participation card” is given to each participant.

Look Good...Feel Better

Agnesian HealthCare is proud to partner with the American Cancer Society to offer the Look Good…Feel Better program to residents in Fond du Lac and surrounding communities. Guided by a volunteer cosmetologist, female cancer patients who participate in this free program will learn how to use make-up and skincare techniques to overcome the appearance-related effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Look Good…Feel Better is offered through a partnership of the American Cancer Society; the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation; and the National Cosmetology Association. Classes and materials are provided free of charge to women in active cancer treatment.

Heartsaver AED Renewal

Heartsaver AED Renewal is for those who a current Heartsaver AED certification and need to renew their status. Lay rescuers will review CPR and use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for adult and child cardiac arrest victims. Students also learn relief of choking in adults and children, infant CPR and relief of choking and child and infant safety.

Afternoon Grief Support Group
Time: Noon to 1:15 p.m.
Cost: Free Community Service
Sponsored by Agnesian HealthCare, this afternoon grief support program is designed to help participants cope with the death of a loved one in an informative and supportive group setting. In addition to a general overview of the grieving process, participants will also learn differences in grieving, how to manage their grief, past grief experiences and how to prepare for and face special days such as holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. Other topics to be addressed include spirituality and grieving, how to help others cope with their loss, and the importance of closure – how to go on after saying “good-bye.”
This group meets the third Tuesday of every month.

Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescents. It occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for his or her age and height. Childhood obesity is particularly troubling because the extra pounds often start children on the path to health issues that were once confined to adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Childhood obesity can also lead to poor self-esteem and depression. Join Heather Schmidt, DO, Fond du Lac Regional Clinic Family Medicine physician, as she discusses the serious health, psychological and social issues of childhood obesity. She will also cover prevention programs and treatment options for children who are overweight.

This class provides instruction and demonstration regarding infant care, such as feeding, bathing, navel care, circumcision care and diapering. Mom and support person are welcome to attend. The class covers how to respond to your infant’s cues, signs and symptoms of an ill infant, newborn safety and much more. This class should be completed by the end of the eighth month of pregnancy.

Did you know that most fractures among older adults are caused by falls? As we get older, physical changes and health conditions – and sometimes the medications used to treat those conditions – make falls more likely. Join Amber Hahn, Agnesian HealthCare Sports, Spine & Work Center physical therapist, as she provides tips to help older adults protect their independence and reduce the risk of falling. Learn how to reduce hazards in the home that can lead to falls and discover what exercises can increase strength and improve balance. Participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a balance screening to help determine risk factors for falling.
