Yoga I & II

Yoga alleviates stress, aids in healing and helps us reclaim our general sense of well-being.

Join Sigrun Columbia-Navis, RN, certified yoga instructor with the Center for Spirituality and Healing, for a six-week yoga program designed for the beginner and intermediate yoga student.

Students will utilize the techniques learned in Yoga I as well as learn more challenging poses that are held longer to further increase strength, balance and flexibility.

Students will learn new relaxation techniques and have the opportunity to sit for meditation at the end of each class. As variations of the basic postures are introduced, individuals will gain a new awareness of body, breath and mind.

Gentle Yoga

Gentle yoga is for people of all sizes, ages and fitness levels and is designed for students who desire a less vigorous class. Gentle yoga combines a very slow and steady warm-up with therapeutic and restorative postures, yoga breathing techniques and guided relaxation to reduce stress and increase movement and vitality. Join Suzanne Boyle, a certified yoga instructor and massage therapist from the Fond du Lac Center for Spirituality & Healing, for this eight-week class that addresses the specific needs of each student. Boyle will introduce a slow flow of increasingly active poses where students learn to modify the classical poses with various props in order to stay within the safe limitations of their bodies.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points. Join Patti Michels, APNP, an adult nurse practitioner in the Fond du Lac Regional Clinic Physiatry department, to learn more about the symptoms and functional changes associated with this disease. Michels will also discuss the pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment options.

Diagnosing Parkinson's disease can be challenging; there is no single test to confirm the disease. Join Serena Hung, MD, Medical College of Wisconsin movement disorders neurologist; Vicki Conte, Medical College of Wisconsin Parkinson program coordinator; and Eugenia Daniela-Hord, MD, Fond du Lac Regional Clinic neurologist, to learn about the signs, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's disease.

HEARTSAVER AED teaches lay rescuers CPR and use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for adult and child cardiac arrest victims. CPR for Family & Friends for Expectant Parents teaches lay rescuers skills in adult, child and infant
CPR and relief of foreign body airway obstruction in the responsive victim. The course presents information about the AHA adult Chain of Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking in adults. The course also presents information on the AHA pediatric Chain of Survival, signs of choking in infants and children, prevention of the most common fatal pediatric injuries and reduction in the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. A course “participation card” is given to each participant.

Healthcare providers will review the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device and oxygen), use of an AED and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction in responsive and non-responsive victims.

Join Susan Iwanski, AuD, CCC-A, a Fond du Lac Regional Clinic audiologist, as she discusses how you know you have hearing loss; how you can prevent hearing loss; dangers of hearing loss; and treatment options.

Car Seat Safety/Breastfeeding

The Car Seat Safety class will provide you and your partner with information on car seat safety laws and how to select the right kind of car seat for your infant, and how to secure your infant in the car seat. This class is from 6-7 pm and will be followed by the Breastfeeding for Moms and Dads.

Breastfeeding for Moms and Dads will provide you and your partner information to begin breastfeeding with confidence and a true sense of security. Topics covered in the class include: advantages of breastfeeding, techniques, problem prevention, return to work and use of breast pump for nursing mothers. This class is 2 hours long and follows the Car Seat Safety Class.
