Breastfeeding for Moms and Dads

Time: 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Location: Agnesian HealthCare Journeys: a health resource center, 430 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac

Agnesian HealthCare's Breastfeeding for Moms and Dads class provides you and your partner with information to begin breastfeeding with confidence and a true sense of security. Topics include the advantages of breastfeeding, techniques, problem prevention, returning to work and the use of breast pumps for the nursing mother.

Prepared Childbirth

Time: 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Location: Agnesian HealthCare's Plaza Level Conference Center, 430 E. Division Street,  Fond du Lac

Cost: $30 per couple

This one-day Agnesian HealthCare class for expectant parents includes information on nutrition, fetal growth and development, mechanics of labor, breathing and relaxation, types of deliveries, physical and emotional needs of the mother and coach, plus much more. The program also includes a tour of St. Agnes Hospital’s Women & Infants Unit birthing rooms.

Core Strength Training...Develop Your Center of Power

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: Agnesian HealthCare Plaza Level Conference Center, 430 E. Division Street

Cost: $15 per person - Participants will receive a resistance band

You may be wondering what exactly is core strength and why should one worry about it? Core strength training focuses on the muscles in the abdomen, hips, back and chest. All of our movements are powered by the torso, the body’s center of power. The abs and back work together to support the spine when we sit, stand, bend over, pick things up, exercise and more.

Join Jean Rusch, certified personal aerobic and weight and fitness trainer, for an interactive class using resistance bands that will teach participants specific core strengthening exercises that can strengthen and tone, help prevent back pain and improve balance and stability. You won’t want to miss this class!

Heartsaver AED

Time: 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Location: Agnesian HealthCare Journeys: a health resource center, 430 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac

Cost: $40 per student

HEARTSAVER AED teaches lay rescuers CPR and use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for adult and child cardiac arrest victims. Students also learn relief of choking in adults and children, infant CPR and relief of choking and child and infant safety. A course completion card is given upon successful completion of a practical and written exam.

How to Avoid Stress Eating

 

Time: 7:30 a.m.

Location: Ripon Medical Center's Green Lake Room, 933 Newbury Street, Ripon

Cost: $5 per person

Join Terra Braatz, Agnesian HealthCare IntegNet Employee Assistance counselor, for an educational and interactive presentation that will help participants recognize the differences between emotional hunger and physical hunger.

Braatz will also help participants identify triggers that can cause one to eat based on emotion. In addition, tips will be provided to help manage emotions along the way in a more effective and healthy manner.

Safe Sitter

Class dates: Mondays, February 13 and 20

Time: 3:30 to 6 p.m.

Location: Agnesian HealthCare Journeys: a health resource center, 430 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac

Cost: $40 per student

Agnesian HealthCare joins hundreds of cities across the country that offer Safe Sitter babysitting training classes. The medically-accurate program teaches 11- to 14-year-old girls and boys how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children.

Participants will also receive helpful tips to make them more confident caregivers, learn safety precautions and how to understand children of different ages, and even the business of babysitting.

Nutrition for Weight Loss

Cost: $5 per person

Join Janeah Steel, RD, CD, Agnesian HealthCare registered dietitian, to find out how to lose weight the healthy way.

Participants will learn about the best nutritional strategies to achieve and maintain a healthier body weight. Topics include realistic goal setting, portion control, label reading, cooking tips and other principles of a healthy diet.

Detecting Eye Diseases & Conditions

Time: 6 p.m.

Cost: $5 per person

As our population is aging, vision loss from eye diseases in increasing. According to the National Eye Institute (NEI), about 3.3 million Americans age 40 and older have low vision. By 2020, that number could be 5.5 million - a 60 percent increase!

Join Karen Nixon, MD, a board-certified Fond du Lac Regional Clinic ophthalmologist, to learn how to eye disease. Dr. Nixon will also provide an overview of the four most common eye diseases including age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetic eye disease and glaucoma, in people over age 40.

A Healthy Heart...It's Never Too Late to Start

Cost: $5 per person

It's never too late to start taking care of your heart! The best way to prevent cardiovascular disease is to prevent or reduce an individual's number of risk factors. The more risk factors a person has, the greater chance of disease.

Join Richard Santa-Cruz, MD, Fond du Lac Regional Clinic board-certified cardiologist, to learn more about these risk factors and what can be done to improve overall heart health.
